Pine Mountain Scenic Trail, Kentucky

The purpose of this page is to compile and share information about the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail in Eastern Kentucky which traverse the crest of Pine Mountain.  I am not an expert on the trail, and I do not live in the immediate area, but I live close enough it's a good weekend destination for me, and I feel like it is a hidden gem.

The information here is mostly logistical as I figure it out for myself.  I have no intention of providing turn-by-turn detailed information.

This trail isn't as heavily traveled as other similar trails, and it is tough and remote in some respects.  My first trip on it tested my mental fortitude (I was solo), and I have a lot of respect for it.

For overnight parking at Kingdom Come State Park call the number below or go to the Visitors' Center.  I was told you can register your car so the rangers know it's a shuttle vehicle and park at either Creech Overlook or the Visitors' Center.  The current southwestern end of the singletrack Little Shepherd Section ends at Kingdom Come.  You can hike the road section of the LST beyond Kingdom Come as well.

The northeastern section of the Little Shepherd Section (southeastern end of the Highlands Section) of the PMT is at US 119 south of Whitesburg, Kentucky.  It's a nice trailhead with a pit toilet and a kiosk sign, but nothing else.  It's well-marked.
